Fairmont Banff Springs

SKI TRAILS, SNOW TALES AND ALPINE ESCAPES

Leaning in to the cold and snow of winter is the best way to enjoy the season. Whether you're heading to the high altitudes of Colorado or the European Alps, make sure to acclimate, especially if altitude affects you. Or consider Banff, Alberta, the alpine town sits at an easier breathing altitude (4,500 feet), making it a lot more fun strap on a pair of skates at Lake Louise, which freezes into an enormous winter wonderland banked by the Rockies.

Top: The Fairmont Château Lake Louise | Bottom: Yellowstone

For those eager to race through the great outdoors, West Yellowstone offers a natural winter wonderland ideal for snowmobiling. Thousands of thrilling miles of groomed trails and powder fields await, with stops at the national park’s Old Faithful Geyser Basin a must.

When it comes to skiing, first ask yourself how you like to spend a day in the mountains? If it’s chasing powder stashes and navigating the steep and deep until last chair – consider Whistler Blackcomb, North America’s largest resort with 8,171 acres of terrain. Let us arrange a guide to lead you to the mountain's prime spots, ensuring you skip those tedious lift lines. If you like more leisurely ski days, just about any European resort is your go-to.

Top: Whistler Blackcomb | Bottom Left: Zermatt | Bottom Right: Fire & Ice, Courchevel, France

In Zermatt, enjoy breathtaking vistas and indulge in local delicacies like crispy rosti.  Ski into the mid-mountain Riffelalp Hotel for fondue with its grand views of the Matterhorn (non-skiing companions can meet you via the Gornergrat cog railway). And don’t miss the chance to ski from Zermatt, Switzerland into Cervinia, Italy for lunch. Why not?

And mountain lovers who excel at the après-scene will appreciate the fine living of Courchevel, France – so why not arrive at the Alps on the new Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a Belmond Train, which starts running overnight ski trains from Paris in December.

It’s easy to embrace winter when you know where to go.

Discover the Best Fall and Festive Travel Destinations

As the lazy days of summer give way to the busy rhythms of fall, you may find that time starts to speed up. For the seasoned traveler, it’s an opportune time to start booking fall and festive vacations (if only so you can look forward to those times when time slows right back down again).

With prices returning to more sensible levels and promotions aplenty, consider exploring a domestic or North American destination this season. Allow the sea breezes and sandy shores of warm-weather destinations like the Florida Keys or Mexico's Riviera Maya to captivate you once again. Whether revisiting favorite spots or uncovering the charms of a new locale, you're sure to find a beach that beckons.

1 & 2: Florida Keys & Key West - Monroe County Tourist Development Counil  3. La Valise Tulum | 4. Ik-Kil Cenote, Mexico

And no one does Thanksgiving quite like a luxury dude ranch – where an all-inclusive experience takes the pressure off mealtimes and outdoor adventures. Montana’s The Ranch at Rock Creek, for example, will turn your family getaway into one you’ll be talking about for years. Or go fly fishing on the Rio Grande with the guides at Vermejo, a grand Ted Turner lodge in northern New Mexico.

If you want to make the Christmas season one to remember why not take in Europe’s outstanding Christmas markets? In Austria, book in advance to explore Salzburg’s exquisite stalls and unique gingerbread. This town is where the carol Silent Night was first written and performed, and expect to hear it often while wandering the Old Town, picturesquely situated under the looming castle overhead.

1. Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana | 2. Salzburg Christmas Market | 3. Adare Manor, Ireland  |  4. Fortnum & Mason, London

In search of the ultimate holiday shopping experience? Then perhaps the bright lights and extraordinary decorations of London is what you need. Some might say that if you haven’t wandered through Fortnum & Mason’s all dolled up for the holidays then you haven’t yet done Christmas. In Ireland, a hot whisky and cozy pub also set the mood for celebrating. A house party or a live band is never very hard to find, and booking an Irish castle hotel is a terrific way to warm the hearts of your travel group (and take the pressure off holiday prep).

Celebrating close to home or overseas? Let's plan holiday travel now.

Venice Biennale, Italy

Don't Miss Out on These Global Celebrations

It doesn’t take much to find a reason to travel – a new restaurant overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea? A restored palazzo hotel with views of the Grand Canal in Venice? A chance to nibble Michelin-starred sushi in Tokyo? Sign us up!

Art Basel Miami

But some of the most fun adventures you can have are date-driven to experience the world’s best festivals and events. Booking ahead and planning is key – it’s not easy to find good hotels last-minute for Art Basel Miami in June. Or a walking-distance five-star stay for the Venice Biennale as you ponder big ideas about art, architecture and politics.

Albuquerque Balloon Festival, New Mexico

If you love watching hot air balloons, get your group to New Mexico for the jaw dropping, sky-filling display at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival in October. Looking for some cowboy culture? Book Calgary’s best suites now to whoop it up at the world’s largest outdoor rodeo in July. The entire city celebrates Stampede, and cowboy hats, boots and plaid shirts are de rigueur (even if you don’t know how to ride a horse).

The world’s most important gathering of classical musicians and singers happens annually at the Salzburg Festival but if you want to join them next summer, talk to us now to book.

2024 Olympics, Paris, France

If you’re a fan of sports – don’t forget the Olympics. Two top travel destinations are hosting soon: In 2024, the Summer Games are in Paris, ohh la la! And in 2026, Italy hosts its third Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Front row center? Backstage access? How can we make your festival and cultural experience more fun?

How European Travel is Changing Next Year

If there’s one question travel advisors have been getting more of lately – it’s concerns about the new Visa rules for Europe. Visa-free travel to Europe is ending in January 2024 for Americans and Canadians. (We’re not the only ones, New Zealanders and Australians are affected too.)

The new fee isn’t much – about 7 euros (around $8) and the forms are easily filled out online. Most travelers should get approval quickly, but it could take up to four days or longer. All ages must apply for the visa and once approved the visa is good for multiple entries for up to three years. The new process and fees are an attempt to tighten border security and keep a digital eye on travelers’ comings and goings.

If you’ve already got bookings overseas or hope to make them, give us a call to see how easy it is to ensure your group is visa-ready for 2024.

Let’s sort through the details of your upcoming European travel.

Patagania | Short-Trip Destinations | Quebec for the Holidays | Travel with Patience

Los Cuernos over Lake Pehoe, Torres del Paine National Park

Patagonia: Discover Two Countries In One

Patagonia, a stunning gem in South America stretching from Chile to Argentina, is a must-see destination teeming with fjords, glaciers, deserts, lakes, mountains, and vast untouched nature. This expansive, beautiful region is best experienced from September to February, during the continent's spring and summer.

At its southernmost tip, the resort town of Ushuaia offers a feeling of standing at the world's end. Both the Chilean and Argentinian sides have spectacular areas to explore - let us guide you to the experiences and accommodations that align with your aspirations.

Torres del Paine National Park  |  Rio Palena Lodge

In Chile, Torres del Paine National Park is the must-see with trails on the famous W-route that can be done as day hikes taking visitors past peaks reaching 8,200 feet above sea level. Day hikes can end with a scenic ferry return -- past mind-blowing glaciers and the Southern Ice fields. The fishing in the region is magnificent, too, expert guides are found at Rio Palena Lodge, a billionaire’s paradise that’s part of the Eleven luxury lodges, nestled in a mountain valley on the banks of the Palena River. (In the winter, the heli-skiing here is unparalleled.)

Trekking Perito Moreno Glacier  |  EOLO - Patagonia's Spirit Hotel - Relais & Chateaux

On the Argentinian side, explore the Perito Moreno Glacier with crampons, or take in its chilly grandeur from the water on a boat cruise. The village of El Chaltren, found in the UNESCO-ranked Los Glaciares National Park, is where you gear up before hiking closer to the peaks of Fitz Roy and reaching the Laguna de los Tres viewpoint. If you want to extend your stay in this magnificent area consider eco-dome glamping, with panoramic views of Fitz Roy, just six miles outside of town. For a more glam stay, the Relais & Chateaux finery of the 17-room Eolo lodge offers a tranquil escape.

Bariloche  |  Cerro Catedral Ski Resort

For an urban fix, make the charming four-season town of Bariloche, Argentina, your base. Travel & Leisure magazine recently crowned it Patagonia’s “most charming town.” It’s also considered the chocolate capital of the country, so make sure to pick up a few artisanal bars while exploring the main shopping street, La Calle Mitre. Visit July through September if you are a skier - nearby, Cerro Catedral is a large and modern ski resort. Summer visitors can enjoy the natural charms of Nahuel Huapi National Park, where the largest and deepest lake of the region has long lured outdoor explorers.

A trip to Patagonia ensures adventure and awe are on your itinerary no matter what time of year you visit.

Italy's Backroads | Peru's Hidden Wonders | Small Ship Expeditions | Navigating Summer Travel

Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy

Taking the Roads Less Traveled

If you’ve fallen in love with Italy, you’ve likely heard that exploring it is “a lifetime of travel.” Your first visit is a mind-blowing taste, and your second is a slower absorption of la dolce vita. But your third (and beyond) becomes a delicious deep dive into the regions, history and culture.

Barolo, Piedmont, Italy  |  Barolo Wine

Popular destinations in Italy often face the issue of overcrowding and it can be quite a challenge to secure a booking due to their high demand. Smart travelers, however, know to skip the overtouristed hot spots and head into the real Italy.

Spend time, for example, in the Piedmont northern wine region – raise a glass (or several) of full-bodied reds at wineries on day trips from the picturesque villages of Barolo and Barbaresco. Both are day trips from Turin, where you’ll want to pick up a box of candied Pastiglie Leone while wandering this historic regional capital.

White Truffle Pasta  |  Turin, Italy

In October, the allure of the Langhe region lies not just in its undulating hills, but also in the precious white truffle that draws enthusiasts from all corners. The wine region is dotted with hilltop towns, each boasting a remarkable castle. Hiking between the vineyards is an excellent way to explore slowly and let the charms of the region take hold. These areas may be lesser traveled but high-end accommodations and luxury amenities are easily found.

Lake Garda  |  Scaligero Castle, Sirmione

Lake Garda, though often overlooked in favor of the more famous Lake Como, presents an equally mesmerizing experience. Its captivating turquoise waters, vineyards, and age-old olive groves reflect a remarkable fusion of natural splendor and rich history. Engage in a variety of water sports, amble through the historic town of Sirmione, or hike the picturesque trails of the Monte Baldo range. Lake Garda matches Lake Como's opulence with its own selection of boutique hotels and gourmet restaurants, promising a truly authentic Italian experience.

Ready to explore Italy beyond the standard itinerary?

Lake Titicaca

Exploring Peru's Hidden Wonders

Peru is another country where many visitors get stuck into a “Machu Picchu or bust” mindset. There’s so much more Incan and pre-Incan history to be explored. The Nazca lines, a world-renowned mystery, can be found in the South, on the other side of the Andes. These 2,000-year-old geoglyphs, covering over 50 miles, showcase roughly 300 baffling stylized animal and plant designs, best viewed from the air on customized tours or a 43-foot high observation tower for views of two striking shapes.

Nazca Lines  |  Cahuachi

Found in one of the driest areas globally, these wonders remain protected from erosive damage. Nearby, the archaeological site of Cahuachi provides further insight into the Nazca line creators, with remarkable structures like a pyramid and a stepped temple that fascinate visitors with a treasure of discoveries including textiles, engraved gourds, pottery and ancient mummies.

Belmond Andean Explorer

But perhaps the easiest and most divine way to see more of the highlands is on board the Belmond train, the Andean Explorer. Champagne flows as easily as the mountainous landscape outside your windows – from Cusco to Lake Titicaca and beyond.

Belmond Andean Explorer  |  Uros Reed Boat

After watching the sun rise over the world-famous Lake Titicaca, a Belmond guide takes you onto the lake to meet the Uros people, who live on islands they have built out of reeds. The journey and the scenery are equally impressive, from the fine dining and historic décor of the Belmond dining car to the rare experience of treatments in the spa car while the train gently trundles onward through unforgettable vistas.

Yearning for a Peruvian adventure that steps off the beaten path? Let's plan it!

Stuðlagil Canyon, Iceland

Small Ship, Big Adventure

You’ve heard some of the countries you're eagerly longing to visit are, to put it mildly, popular with travelers. Who wants to get stuck shoulder-to-shoulder while standing in awe of thundering waterfalls or epic mountain views or exquisitely carved works of art?

One of the best workarounds may be to sail around the country on an exclusive small luxury ship, with a crew that knows the right local ports in which to drop anchor. From there, inland excursions with your small group are intimate and enjoyable.

Tauck  |  Slippurinn  |  Puffin

Iceland's stunning, almost otherworldly landscapes become more accessible when sailing the island's perimeter on a small ship, bypassing the crowds. Travelers can explore the fascinating lava fields of Eldfell and enjoy renowned culinary experiences at Slippurinn in the Westman Islands, a restaurant redefining Icelandic gastronomy. A group visit to a private nature reserve near Skálanes on a revitalized farmstead offers intimate encounters with Arctic birds, coastal cliffs, and the chance to spot baleen whales and seals.

Sushi & Sake  |  Miyajima  |  Gold-leaf Soft Serve Ice Cream

Or perhaps your heart is set on the history and beauty of Japan? Small ship tours can take you to quieter ports along the northern and western coasts, offering an immersion into local culture. Delve into the art of sushi and sake in small towns such as Hagi, the birthplace of samurai and Hagi pottery, or visit Kanazawa, famous for its impressive castle, gardens and gold leaf production. Here, you may even be tempted to indulge in a unique gold-leaf soft serve ice cream—a true travelbrag!

One of the best reasons to explore a country by small-ship is that you only have to unpack once!

Hôtel Lily of the Valley, La Croix-Valmer, France

Two Must-Haves for Summertime Travel

Patience and kindness. And we’ll add a third: a sense of humor.  Let’s face it, more than ever travelers need all three. The continuing upswing in travel during what has long been the busiest time of the year is becoming more frustrating as airlines and airports struggle to keep up. Commercial airlines switch up their schedules, swap out planes and move crew around – and that might disrupt your trip.

Lately, we've learned to expect change and prepare for outside disruptions to best-laid plans. We are professionals, and your best bet to help rework and smooth out ripples in your itinerary. Our top tip for avoiding airline disruption? Book a private jet. Make like the cast of Succession and fly private. (We can help you book that too!)

Amendments happen! We can help you sort through the shifts.

From A to Zambezi: Why You Need to See Mozambique

Mozambique may be the beach holiday you’ve been waiting for and didn’t know existed. Imagine a country with 1,500 miles of unspoiled coastline, crystal-clear waters and white, soft sandy beaches. Not only beaches, but wildlife too – drawn to the lower Zambezi River, one of  the most biologically diverse floodplains in Africa.

Safari, Gorongosa National Park

Africa’s largest protected marine area is found just off the country’s northern coast where you’ll discover the Quirimbas archipelago. Here 32 islands stretch right up to Tanzania -- the diving and snorkeling amongst these lesser-known coral reefs is enchanting. But further south, and perhaps easier to reach for visitors, are five stunning islands in the Bazaruto archipelago where luxury resorts cater to high-end beach escapes. Benguerra Island, the largest, is a haven of tranquility and adventure in the midst of another marine reserve.

Benguerra Island Aerial, Kisawa Sanctuary

Consider Kisawa, on Benguerra's southern tip, as an exquisite example of adventurous luxury found in Mozambique. Kisawa’s 22 bespoke thatched villas blend impeccably into the nature that surrounds the resort, with several restaurants on-site, a spa (jet-lag relieving massage included) and non-motorized watersports when it’s time to get active. Families will be enchanted by the incredible sea shells to be found, while romantics should book a sunset sailing in a wooden dhow, holding hands while the ocean breezes swell the sail and your heart.

Kisawa Sanctuary, Benguerra Island

Mozambique is a former Portuguese colony (it gained independence in 1975), and Portuguese is the official language, though English is common as is Makhuwa, the main Bantu language. Keen to kickstart tourism, Mozambique allows visitors from the United States and Canada visa free access for 30 days, and perhaps the best time to visit is during the June to October dry season. Make sure to bring some cash, U.S. dollars and South African rand are accepted.

Snorkeling, Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort

Exploring Mozambique and indulging in its fantastic beach resorts is a complete holiday experience in itself. However, this destination also seamlessly combines with a safari adventure, making it an ideal addition to your itinerary. After all, if you're already on the continent, why not explore more of its wonders? Effective planning is crucial to ensure you secure the perfect resorts at the ideal times, allowing your journey to flow seamlessly and ensuring a smooth and memorable experience.

Escape to an African country (or two) that you haven’t explored yet.

Istanbul Grand Bazaar

Rediscovering Türkiye

Istanbul and the coastal towns of Bodrum and Antalya (famous for beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters) are waiting. It’s time to go back to Türkiye, a country rich in culture, adventure and natural beauty.

The February earthquake that ravaged the southeastern region is not close to many travelers' must-see destinations. More importantly, your tourism dollars help to rebuild the economy. Since tourism is such a large employer, employees will put your tips and excursion fees to good use, as many who live in the affected regions have left to find work in tourist centers. And there is so much to see in Türkiye!

Golden Horn Bay, Istanbul  |  Kaputas Beach, Antalya

Most travelers have already heard about the bucket-list beauty of a Cappadocia balloon ride as it soars over the area’s “fairy chimneys.” After a day of exploring the ancient underground cities cut into the landscape’s soft rock below, stepping into a balloon basket to see the sun rise far above this UNESCO region is something no traveler soon forgets. Now is the time to book that unforgettable lifetime moment.

Another one of those mind-blowing moments might be watching the dance-like worship practiced by the Mevlevilik Sufi order: the Whirling dervishes. The spellbinding movements are also recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s important and intangible human history.

Cappadocia  |  Whirling Dervishes

History buffs should make their way along the Mediterranean coast to the hilltop Simena Castle, or Kalekoy. Wander up through the town that’s built itself around the ruin, built in the Byzantine style on top of a foundation from the Lycian era. The views and fascinating small city built around it are worth adding to your itinerary.

The Turkish bath is another must-do – beloved by locals, hammams are found all over the country. It’s a traditional foam massage and a scrub like no other. Once you arrive with your towel, let locals show you the right protocols for a truly immersive experience into their culture.

Kalekoy, Antalya  |  Travertine Pools and Terraces in Pamukkale

And if you love a good spa, how about a mineral soak in pools believed to have been enjoyed by Cleopatra herself? The white limestone cliffs and sparkling mineral pools of Pamukkale have been popular since ancient times. The brilliantly white healing waters are found in Türkiye’s Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley.

It's time to start planning and book ahead to take advantage of the dollar’s strength against the Turkish lira. The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul is waiting.

New memories await you in Türkiye. Let's design your ideal vacation!

Smart Travel Starts Now

As travel advisors, we've witnessed the tremendous benefits of smart travelers who planned their summer adventures well in advance. These savvy individuals had their plans locked down for months, and in some cases, even years ahead. Now, in the midst of this post-pandemic travel boom, their strategic approach has truly paid off. It has become abundantly clear that those who made the effort to plan ahead are now reaping the rewards, confidently embarking on their summer journeys while others who were less prepared now hesitate to tread the same path.

We're already reporting record high air fares over the next few months. In Europe, for example, most accommodation prices have skyrocketed – in hot spots such as Rome, popular hotels have more than doubled their rates, some even demand a seven-night minimum stay. Happily, though, clients who locked in months ago secured those same hotels at much more reasonable rates.

Give us a call soon! There’s lots of time to get ready for next summer and it’s essential to get in touch and discuss fall season itineraries and dates to get your must-see destinations confirmed. But here there is also the added bonus of a wellness spa team that crafts health plans based on a guest’s personal needs, whether it’s rest and regeneration or detoxification or even muscle-focused treatments. Spa health experts draw on ancient rituals and herbalism steeped in Ayurveda tenants and traditional Chinese medicine.

Como Shambhala (which means peace in Sanskrit) welcomes guests to a resort surrounded by jungle and perched above a rushing river. A nearby spring provides mineral water in every tap. Mind, body, and spirit are catered to with cuisine created for optimal nutrition and flavor.

Raja Ampat

For an exceptional way to unwind, consider diving or snorkeling amid Indonesia's world-famous coral reefs, which offer both adventure and relaxation. The soothing motion of the waves, the absolute absence of sound – just your breath – while exploring underwater worlds lets you focus on the sea creatures and the  brightly colored and fascinatingly shaped coral in front of you, and nothing else. There are great dive resorts in and islands along the Indonesian archipelago of Raja Ampat. Let us plan a diving experience that will rival anything you’ve seen in the world.

Cenote Dos Ojos  |  Cenote Samulá

How about taking a dip in the cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula? These natural pools, formed by the collapse of porous limestone, unveil hidden underground water reservoirs, and were much revered by the Mayans centuries ago. Near Tulum, look for Cenote Dos Ojos, which features two connected pools, or head to the Instagram favorite - Cenote Samulá, near Valladolid on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park  |  Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Hiking or kayaking on Vancouver Island is another excellent way to unwind as you breathe in the clean air of old-growth forests. Explore Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park to encounter towering 300-foot spruce trees and ancient cedars over 1,000 years old. Trails range from brief walks to extensive day hikes. Just remember to gear up for mud and bring your rain equipment – after all, this rainforest lives up to its name!

Navigating the Magic of Wellness Travel:

5 Tips for a Life-Changing Journey

Wellness travel has been growing in popularity, and for good reason: it's a chance to hit the reset button and come back to your daily life with more energy, better health, and a renewed spirit. To help you make the most of these transformative journeys, we've compiled five tips to embrace wellness travel to the fullest.

1 - Set Your Intention

Before you dive into the details, take a moment to reflect on your intention for this wellness getaway. Are you looking to unplug from the daily grind, reconnect with nature, or perhaps deepen your spiritual practice? Whatever your goal, having a clear intention in mind will help us tailor your trip to achieve maximum benefits.

Four Seasons, Ubud, Bali

2 - Choose Your Destination Wisely

When it comes to wellness travel, location is everything. Have us research destinations that resonate with your intentions and offer activities that pique your interest. Whether you're dreaming of a tropical yoga retreat, a serene mountain hideaway, or a bustling city with a vibrant wellness culture, the world is your oyster!

3 - Prioritize Self-Care

While it's tempting to fill your itinerary with back-to-back activities, remember that the goal is relaxation and rejuvenation. Be sure to have us carve out some "me time" for spa treatments, meditation, journaling, or simply soaking in a bubble bath. You'll return from your trip feeling like a brand-new person.

Traditional Northern Thai Food

4 - Stay Balanced

When we travel, it's easy to throw our usual eating habits out the window, but maintaining a balanced diet is crucial for overall wellness. Seek out local, nourishing meals, and remember to stay hydrated. Indulging is part of the experience, so don't shy away from trying new dishes.

5 - Disconnect to Reconnect

In this digital age, it's essential to take a step back from technology and truly immerse yourself in the present moment. Consider a digital detox, or at the very least, limit your screen time. By disconnecting from your devices, you'll create space for more meaningful connections - with yourself, your surroundings, and others.

Embrace the adventure, and return home with renewed energy, better health, and a refreshed spirit.

Rio Celeste Waterfall, Tenorio Volcano National Park, Costa Rica

Adventure Travel with a Positive Impact

Thinking about the Earth and your impact on it while you explore is something many travelers ponder these days. Sustainable travel may be the industry’s latest buzz words but many locations around the world are already “green” – saving energy and resources – simply by offering experiences in remote destinations, such as andBeyond’s Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa or Mombo Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

Top: andBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve  |  Bottom: Wilderness Mombo Camp & Gorilla Trekking

In Rwanda, you can go gorilla trekking while also helping to protect the animals' mountain habitat for generations to come. The revenue generated from tourism helps foster a thriving local community, supporting the fight against poaching and promoting sustainable practices.

For something closer to home, why not visit Hawaii? The islands are asking visitors to "Mālama," or give back, by learning more about Hawaiian traditions and culture. Spend time meeting the locals and hearing the legends while planting native trees and flowers or take part in a cultural tour of the native Loko Ea Fishpond.

Top: Turtle Bay Hotel, Oahu & Loko Ea Fishpond  |  Bottom: Four Seasons, Costa Rica & Scarlet Macaws

If your crew is ready for an unforgettable outdoor adventure in Costa Rica, why not combine a trip to the beach and jungle with a hands-on visit to the Costa Rica Wildlife Rescue center? This is a unique opportunity to witness the rehabilitation of orphaned animals and those rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, and even participate in feeding and learning about a variety of species, including sloths, monkeys, kinkajous, macaws, owls, and leatherback turtles. The surrounding jungle provides an ideal setting for an exciting hike or wildlife-spotting expedition.

See more of the world by finding adventures that help the planet.

Quark Expeditions

Explore the Poles with Innovative Green Expedition Ships

Have you considered exploring with the latest expedition ships that bring eco-sensitivity to adventure sailings? Lindblad, already a 100 per cent carbon neutral company, and Ponant both have new ships that glide through the ecologically fragile Arctic and Antarctic waters propelled by hybrid electric and natural gas.

Top: PONANT  |  Bottom: Quark Expeditions

Quark’s latest vessel – the MV Ultramarine – gets high marks for its improved luxury experience and state-of-the-art features that help reduce waste, recycle energy and enable the ship to position itself without an anchor that might damage the seabed. Sailing in these sensitive waters has never been more environmentally viable.

Set sail with companies that are on the right track.

Namib Desert, Namibia

Namibia – Safari Where the Environment Comes First

Namibia has made animal conservation an important part of its culture – using community-run conservancies (along with government- and non-profit run organizations) to restore populations of lions, cheetahs, black rhinos, zebras and other wildlife. Namibia is what the World Wildlife Fund calls “the world’s richest dry land.”

Namibian safaris prioritize sustainable tourism, working with local communities to protect natural resources. Destinations include Damaraland, home to desert-adapted elephants and lions, and Etosha National Park, with diverse wildlife and over 300 bird species. Visit during the rainy season to witness the spectacle of flamingos.

Top: Onguma Camp Kala  |  Bottom:  andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge and Skeleton Coast

The Skeleton Coast, a 25 mile wide and 310 mile long coastal stretch, offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty, with shipwrecks and contrasting landscapes. Explore the African-German culture in Swakopmund, a resort town that also serves as a base for Skeleton Coast trips.

Don't miss the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Otjiwarongo, where visitors can learn about efforts to protect the world's fastest land mammal. Namibia's breathtaking landscapes and commitment to conservation make it an unforgettable travel experience.

Wide open landscapes, deserts that have to be seen to be believed, what are you waiting for?

Off-Season? What Off-Season?

Once upon a time, travelers were advised to visit sought-after destinations like Paris, Barcelona, or any Italian city during the off-season or shoulder season to sidestep the bustling crowds. However, in today's world, this guidance no longer holds water.

It appears that the shoulder season has become the new peak season. The demand for accommodations and adventures has skyrocketed, and the opportunity to reserve spots at less crowded times has diminished.

Our expertise lies in securing your preferred dates for must-see cities and resort towns, as we closely monitor the fluctuations in lodging and flight availability, and can inform you of the best time to book at a price that suits your budget. For travel advisors, there is no off-season; simply let us know your desired destination and time frame.

Together, we can pinpoint the ideal moment for your perfect getaway.

Egypt | Northern Italy - Normandy | Dude Ranches | Travel with Confidence

Karnak Temple, Luxor, Egypt

Wonders of the World Await in Egypt

It’s hard not to feel the draw of Egypt’s thousands of years of history. Standing witness to the last ancient Wonder of the World – the Great Pyramid of Giza – is reason enough to make the trip, but it is merely one of many compelling reasons.

In Cairo, listen to the call to prayer as you head out to explore this incredible city - the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the Hanging Church and the Saladin Citadel in the central part of the town are must-sees. Plan to spend some time wandering Khan el-Khalili, Cairo’s large souk, or market, with its mind-boggling array of shops and vendors – photography opportunities (and bargains) are found in every aisle of the bazaar.

Pyramids and the Great Sphinx in Giza | Khan el-Khalili, Cairo, Egypt

Go off-roading on a Jeep in the desert or head out to explore the dunes Lawrence of Arabia style (just substitute a camel), both can offer incredible night-sky viewing if combined with a Bedouin glamping experience overnight. And perhaps it’s time to teach the kids that Luxor isn’t just a big hotel in Vegas but one of the world’s greatest open-air museums.

The ancient temple site is located in the Upper Nile Valley, and the city of Luxor is where many Nile River cruises cast off from. Whether they head north or south, these cruises take travelers into the heart of Egypt. Fly into Cairo early to ensure you take in the Pyramids and the Sphinx before transferring into Luxor, home to the Valley of the Kings.

Top: Viking Cruises - Luxor, Egypt  |  Bottom: Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan

Nile river cruises often run from August through May and take a break during the extreme heat of summer. The best time to cruise the Nile is October to April, though it will be busier. Work with us to discover the best locations and experiences for your family.

Ancient treasures and stunning architecture make Egypt a country everyone should see.

Cliffs of Etretat, Normandy

Northern France: Home to History, Monet’s Garden and Culinary Delights

Normandy, most widely known for its part in D-Day, has a lot more to offer visitors. Sites such as the Juno Beach Centre, the British Normandy Memorial, the Normandy American Center and France’s Memorial Museum for the Battle of Normandy help us understand the past. But travelers should also plan to spend a few extra nights and discover why Normandy is renowned for more than its Second World War history.

Old Market Square, Rouen  |  Market Cheese Selection

The region – around 2.5 hours by car or train from Paris – makes a terrific multiday add-on to your Loire Valley and Paris visits. River cruises along the Seine are also a fantastic option here – leaving the driving to the captain and sightseeing your only responsibility.

By river or by road, consider your options: If you travel to eat (and who doesn’t?) dip into local delicacies such as camembert, cider and Calvados brandy – all made for centuries in the region. Along the coast, seafood, especially oysters, are a must, so stop at the first oyster shack you spot and order a bottle of Muscadet on the side.

Mont-Saint-Michel  |  Monet's Garden

And if you haven’t already made the pilgrimage to Mont-Saint-Michel, maybe this is the year to chase the tides to the architectural marvel built on an island. We can help arrange access outside of the busier times. Inland, Monet’s home and famous painted garden in Giverny will delight travelers; it is often a stop on river cruises.

Discover the delights of the north coast of France; it’s an easy addition to your trip.

The Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana

Dude, Where’s My Ranch?

A ranch vacation is one of the greatest North American vacations – nothing gets you back to the land like learning to live like a cowboy. And we all deserve to disconnect from city life for a while. Dude ranch getaways are found across the U.S. and in Canada’s Western provinces. Working ranches in Montana, Texas, Wyoming, British Columbia and Alberta often allow guests to spend as much or as little time in the barn as they need.

Those who love to ride, or those who’ve never sat astride a horse are catered to with daily outings and horsemanship training. Ranches always offer more than just horses, too: hiking, trail riding, swimming, and fly fishing are just some of the other options available to guests. Think about what’s going to excite and delight your ranchers-in-training (no matter their age) before you select a destination.

1. Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort, BC  |  2. The Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana  |  3. The Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana  |  4. Lodge and Spa at Brush Creek Ranch, Wyoming  |  5. Triple Creek Ranch, Montana

And who said anything about living like a ranch hand? The Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort in the Chilcotin region of B.C. offers five-star dining and luxurious accommodations, while also providing opportunities to connect with horses and nature. In Big Sky Country, The Ranch at Rock Creek and Triple Creek Ranch offer a chance to fulfill your Yellowstone-inspired dreams. And after a day of outdoor activities in Wyoming, unwind with a pampering spa experience at The Lodge and Spa at Brush Creek Ranch, where the treatments are tailored to calm tired and achy muscles.

Great for families and couples, ranch vacations always need to be booked early to find the best luxury location that fits your needs and interests. With so many options to choose from, let us help you plan your perfect ranch getaway that combines adventure, relaxation, and luxury.

Spain | Sicily Travel White Lotus | Treat the Ones You Love When You Travel | Why the Best Trips are Created by TAs

Mallorca, Spain

Spain Awaits: Experience the Culture, Cuisine & Scenery

A feeling of fiesta moves through Spain and its people, who are warm and welcoming and love to celebrate the good things in life. It’s time to see this cultural and culinary-focused country for yourself, done at any time of year. With its mild climate, beautiful beaches, and delicious food, Spain is a popular tourist destination for a reason. Its bustling cities and charming villages offer something for everyone.

Left: Pintxos  |  Right: Guggenheim, Bilbao

In the northern Basque region of Spain, not far from the French border, sits the renowned foodie destination of San Sebastian, famed for its many, many Michelin-starred chefs. Visitors should also go out for pintxos, tiny pieces of bread piled high with flavor. By casually dropping in at neighborhood bars for small snacks and a short glass of beer or wine, you can easily soak up the local life and culture around you.

Why not combine your foodie stop with a cultural one, and head to nearby Bilbao, just over an hour’s drive east along the coast? Here your first stop is the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim modern art museum. This architectural marvel is breathtaking both inside and out.

Left: La Sagrada Familia  |  Right: Mallorca

Another great destination coupling is the architectural delights of Barcelona (for Gaudi’s breathtaking La Sagrada Familia and his eye-popping Casa Batlló) and Mallorca’s sunny, warm beaches (the island is easily reached by ferry or short flight). Mallorca’s capital, Palma de Mallorca, is a feast for the eyes, with historical sites dating back to the 13th-century Christians and earlier Moor, Roman and Talayotic civilizations.

Madrid is a vibrant and dynamic city that should not be missed. With a population of over 3 million, it is the beating heart of Spain, bursting with energy and life. Known for its nightlife, this city is a haven for those looking for an authentic and off-the-beaten-path experience. Take a stroll down Gran Via, "street that never sleeps," where you'll find an eclectic mix of shops, bars, and restaurants.

From Barcelona to Mallorca, from cava to rioja, let us style your Spanish immersion.

Piazza IX Aprile, Taormina, Sicily

Exploring Sicily Beyond HBO's White Lotus

Be warned: if you’ve fallen under Sicily’s spell and want to make it your base for la dolce vita, understand that you are not planning a trip to Italy but a trip to Sicily. This is the largest island in the Mediterranean, just off the toe of Italy’s boot, and it’s experiencing a visitor renaissance thanks to HBO’s White Lotus.

Four Seasons San Domenico Palace  |  Isola Bella

The wry, dark comedy set its second season in the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, a heritage property perched near the hilltop town of Taormina. This former convent-turned-hotel overlooks Mount Etna and the Bay of Taormina and has welcomed the elite for decades – it is a fantastic place to stay, but it’s not the only spot. Fans of the TV show should drop by the hotel for a drink on the terrace or a meal at one of its three restaurants, but there’s so much more to explore elsewhere.

The main town of Palermo is fun to get a little lost in as you wander through the stone streets and markets in neighborhoods such as La Kalsa, Il Capo and Albergheria.

Ancient theatre of Taormina |  Palermo Cathedral church

Aside from the Four Seasons, the resort town of Taormina is known for its hillside views, and culinary delights and these are best explored in the spring or fall to avoid the summer frenzy of local crowds.

History buffs must head to the Valley of the Temples in the south, where preserved Doric temples still stand as beacons to sailors, just as the Greeks intended in the 5th century. On the island’s west side, head to the top of Erice to visit a Norman castle (built over the Temple of Venus) with jaw-dropping 360-degree views.

Explore the riches of the largest Mediterranean island.

Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

How to Treat the Ones You Love When You Travel

In this month of love, we’d like to offer a few suggestions on how to make the ones you love feel special on your vacation. Sure, going away together, whether as a couple or a family or a group of friends, is special enough, but there are ways to make the memories unforgettable.

Glam up your European getaway with a night or two on Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Rail travel is making a comeback, so do it right and ensure the Champagne is flowing. The art-deco glamour, exquisite cuisine and the train’s storied history make the trip from Paris to Vienna, Venice, Verona or Prague (and many points in between) a journey to remember.

Top: Hacienda Altgracia  |  Left:  Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express  |  Right: La Côte d'Or

Indulge in a luxurious spa day at the Hacienda Altagracia in Costa Rica and be swept away by the ultimate relaxation experience. The Well spa at Hacienda Altagracia is a true sanctuary of rejuvenation, offering a wide range of services designed to transport you to a state of complete relaxation. This spa day is the perfect way to unwind, reconnect and create an unforgettable memory in the natural paradise of Costa Rica.

Reserve a table at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Not only will the meal and wine pairing be exquisite, but the level of service will make you feel like a celebrity. In France, where food is a religion, there are 436 to choose from. If you're introducing the kids to fine dining, consider a meal at two-star La Côte d'Or in Burgundy. The restaurant is nestled inside the five-star Relais Bernard Loiseau, named for the chef who inspired the animated film Ratatouille. His wife and children run it still and love welcoming families.

Let’s find the right experience to make your trip even more special.

Why the Best Trips are Created by Travel Advisors

It’s smart to hire the right skill for the right job. You appreciate the keen eye of an interior designer to style your home and a gardener to tidy the landscaping to your liking. You bring in a plumber to fix that leaky faucet and finicky toilet and a contractor to complete the kitchen renovation. That’s also why smart travelers hire a travel advisor to craft a top-notch vacation.

We listen to what you want and devote a lot of time and energy to your trip – we’ve got experience and training you can lean on. And if anything goes awry during your vacation, we've planned it from start to finish and will be your best bet to get things sorted. Planning a vacation around a specific event can be challenging, as accommodations may be limited and tickets may be difficult to obtain. However, we have insider knowledge and resources to help you secure access to exclusive events. Once the event has ended and the excitement has subsided, we can suggest places for you to explore and enjoy the destination at your own pace.

Classical music enthusiasts love the Salzburg Music Festival (July 20-Aug. 31), one of the biggest events of the culture vulture calendar. Lake Bled, Slovenia

Savvy Travelers Head to Slovenia

If you’re looking for a destination that’s not overwhelmed with tourists, where you can spend your euros and the locals speak enough English for you to get by, then you need to know about Slovenia.

This central European country is on the cusp of becoming part of the grand tour. Sharing borders (but not the same level of recognition) with Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Italy, Slovenia manages to combine the best of those better-known nations while offering a rich culture all its own.

Left: Soča River  |  Right: Ljubljana, Capital of Slovenia

The scenery is stunning: hike on spectacular, all-abilities trails in the Julian Alps, which rise over 8,000 feet, then head to Lake Bled in the foothills and learn all about its fairytale creation story. This picturesque alpine lake is where you’ll find the country’s only island, and it’s topped with a 17th-century church with another legend: ring the church bell, and it’s said your wish will be granted.

Left: Predjama Castle  |  Right: Postojna Cave Park

Explore the karst landscape between the Alps and the Adriatic sea, easily reached some 30 miles outside the capital of Ljubljana. The rock formations are both eerie and fascinating, but it’s the jaw-dropping subterranean world of Postojna Cave Park that will blow your mind with its strange limestone shapes and even stranger cave creatures. Take in a little history above with a wander around Predjama Castle, an impregnable medieval marvel that’s been carved out of the rock face.

Left: Hiša Franko |  Right: Chef Ana Roš

The country’s farm-to-fork cuisine is also getting noticed – and has been called out in Forbes as Europe’s most underrated foodie find. Not to be missed: Hiša Franko in Kobarid, about two hours from the capital. This big house in the country is where self-taught and much-hailed chef Ana Roš creates tasting menus with the area’s famous ingredients: trout, deer and goat, not to mention its fruits and wild plants. Roš also ages her own Tolminc cheese and runs a wine bar during the summer months.

And don’t leave the country without sampling its everyday food pleasures, including Štruklji, sweet or savory rolled dumplings, and potica, a traditional rolled nut cake made according to ancient recipes throughout the country.

Wrap up the Gift of Travel this Holiday Season

When our lives are filled with things and packed with commitments, wouldn’t it be fun to gift a travel promise instead? Book a trip for your loved one where they can step back from their day to day and indulge their passion. The gift of new experiences always fits and won’t be returned. We hope these suggestions inspire you:

For the skier…… Extend the powder hound’s season by booking a ski trip to the southern hemisphere in July or August. In Chile, Portillo is a fan favorite, and in Argentina, consider the snow-sure terrain of Las Leñas and the eye-candy views of Cerro Catedral.

For the design lover…… Head to Copenhagen – famous as a hub of Scandinavian design. Soak up  the city’s architecture and browse its many artisanal shops for houseware, furniture and clothing.

Left: Portillo, Chile   |  Top: Copenhagen, Denmark  |  Bottom: Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya

For the beach lover……  Be the first to discover the Mayan restoration of Belmond’s Maroma hotel in Riviera Maya on the white sands of Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Opening in May 2023.

For the foodie…… If they’ve already sampled Michelin-starred restaurants, why not consider the culinary scene in Nazareth, Israel – long considered a food lover’s hotspot in the Middle East for its mix of cultures and flavors.

For the wellness junkie…… Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort is an adults only enclave on the quiet island of Lanai, Hawaii. It envelops each guest in well-being programs, spa oases and five-star dining. Or discover Sensei's newly opened property near Palm Springs, California.

Top: Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort  |  Bottom: Shakshuka  |  Right: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan

For the fashionista…… New York, London, Milan or Paris? You don’t need to work for the industry to get into Fashion Week events. Public tickets and VIP experiences can be purchased for a fantastic, stylish week in the city.

For the gap year adventurer…… G Adventures offers “Roamies,” small group, immersive trips for 18 to mid-30 year olds throughout Asia, Europe, Costa Rica and Mexico, where the kids sleep in hostels so hip you might want to stay in one yourself.

Last-minute getaway or long-term plans?

Let us help you wrap up the gift of travel this year.

Abu Dhabi, UAE

The Long Weekend Sweetener with Preclearance

Dublin, Ireland, for a long weekend getaway? Thanks to Preclearance, a handy U.S. Customs and Border Protection program, it's not as outlandish as it sounds. Sixteen airports in six countries allow travelers entering the USA the chance to clear Customs before landing in the States.

When a flight is “precleared,” its passengers can disembark as domestic fliers. Pack a carry-on and you can scoot right past the baggage carousel and be out of the airport and on your way home while travelers arriving from non-precleared airports are still in line at Customs. If you’re even farther afield, flying out of Abu Dhabi (which offers preclearance) smooths out that long trip home.

Who wants to spend more time in airports? Fly home from your getaway through these Preclearance airports:

Left: Nassau, Bahamas  |  Right: Dublin, Ireland

Ireland: Raise an extra pint or two in Dublin and Shannon before heading home.

The Bahamas: Make Freeport on Grand Bahama and Nassau your transit airports to quieter islands.

Bermuda: Pink beaches, boozy rum cake and preclearance – what’s not to love?

Left: Bermuda |  Right: Ottawa, Ontario

United Arab Emirates: On a longer getaway, stop for a while in the capital city of Abu Dhabi to take advantage of its Preclearance program.

Canada: Canadians are so nice they’ve got nine airports to make cross-border travel easier: Vancouver and Victoria in BC; Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta; Winnipeg in Manitoba; Toronto and Ottawa in Ontario; Montreal in Quebec; and Halifax in Nova Scotia.

Let’s find an international destination that lets you fly home as a domestic traveler.

Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland

Switzerland: Stunning Any Time of Year

Switzerland is a land full of beauty and wonder. A country that’s famous for so many things is also easy and safe to visit any time of the year. Independent of the EU (so you’ll be spending Swiss francs), Switzerland is also one of the highest countries in Europe, since it is covered by the Alps, so it is perfect for hiking or winter sports.

Over eight million people live in the country, where four national languages are spoken: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. The crime rate is exceedingly low wherever you go – and heading a little off the beaten path can lead to unforgettable Swiss adventures with fewer tourists.

Top: St. Moritz  |  Left: Carlton Hotel St. Moritz  |  Right: St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic Bobrun

Graubünden is the largest region of Switzerland, famous for its famous resort towns of Davos and St. Moritz – but why not try nearby Celerina as well? The historic village center is enchanting and visiting in wintertime offers a chance to sled down the world’s only natural and oldest bobsleigh track in the world, or snowshoe through the Staz Forest Trail.

Summertime is for horse-drawn carriage rides to Lake of Staz, returning to the forest for a sensory hike through fragrant meadows, and savoring a gastronomic walking tour through town. Experience the season in the world’s most picturesque landscapes by train, from the Alps to Lake Geneva to the Matterhorn. The Rhaetian Railway is part of the UNESCO heritage list, thanks to the mind-bending engineering that went into its construction up, down, and around the Alps.

Top: Rhaetian Railway  |  Left: Bürgenstock Resort  |  Right: Lucerne

In a country with 7,000 lakes, it’s not hard to find a jaw-dropping view, especially when exploring Lake Lucerne. Surrounded by mountains, Lake Lucerne sits at 1400+ feet elevation and still maintains a mild climate. The best views will come to those who hike the Swiss Path – a loop around one arm of the lake – or opt for tours aboard a wooden paddlewheel steamer ship.

Just 30 minutes outside Lucerne, discover Fräkigaudi, the longest summertime toboggan ride in the country. Surrounded by the snow-capped beauty of the Alps, the sled ride drops 4,400+ ft with steep turns, tunnels, and built-in jumps.

Top: I Due Sud  |  Left: Fräkigaudi Toboggan |  Right: Principe Leopoldo

Gourmands looking to discover important new chefs will want to travel to the Italian-speaking south. Lugano, the largest town in the Ticino canton, created a Michelin sensation last year when three restaurants earned their first star: I Due Sud at the Hotel Splendide Royal, META and Principe Leopoldo at the Villa Principe Leopoldo hotel. Don’t forget that when making a toast in Switzerland, say “Proscht!” and always make eye contact when you clink glasses.

Would you like to hike through the Alps or ski down them? Switzerland is fantastic any time of the year.

Levin Iglut, Finland

Think Outside the Hotel Box

There are so many incredible locations and accommodations to stay around the world, and while each offers its own unique experience, some go above and beyond. Whether you're looking for an igloo to watch the northern lights, a castle in Ireland, or something in between, we can help you find the perfect place for your next adventure.

In Peru, guests arrive at the Skylodge Adventure Suites via zipline or via ferrata walkway. These glass capsule bedrooms hang from the side of a mountain and offer incredible 300-degree views of the Sacred Valley.

Left: Skylodge Adventure Suites  |  Right: Royal Malewane, South Africa

Glamorous tented camps will make you feel like a pioneer without actually having to live like one. In Africa, the safari tents of Masai Mara, Kenya, and Botswana’s AndBeyond Nxabega Okavango stand out. If Safari tents aren't your style, the Royal Malewane in Kruger National Park offers a classic luxury safari lodge experience.

Ashford Castle, Ireland

Make fairy-tale dreams come true with a castle sleepover – Ireland’s Ashford Castle in County Mayo or Dromoland Castle in County Clare should set Irish eyes smiling. Or make it a chateaux-hopping vacation in France’s Loire Valley, home to 300 castles, many of which offer overnight stays.

Left: Snowhotel Kirkenes, Norway  |  Right: Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, British Columbia

’Tis the season for ice hotels – Quebec City’s famous Hotel de Glâce opens early in January – but in Kirkenes, Norway, visitors can sleep in the Snowhotel 365 days a year. It may sound cold, but snuggling into downy sleeping bags placed on furs makes it more fun. Stop by the hotel’s frozen bar, where drinks are always served “on the rocks” in a tumbler of ice.

Closer to home, immersing yourself in the untouched old growth wilderness of Vancouver Island is much more fun in the luxury tents of Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge. Even better – the area is accessible only by seaplane or boat.

Catch some Zzzzs somewhere unique. Sometimes, the best places to sleep have nothing to do with the bed.

Bora Bora, Tahiti

Destinations Where the Dollar Goes Further

It’s been a long time since the US dollar has been stronger than the euro, and the dollar has also been surging against the British pound, making this a financially fantastic time to consider a European vacation. In fact, the strong dollar means many traditionally higher priced destinations are getting a second look from travelers planning overseas getaways and festive get togethers.

Left & Top: Conrad Bora Bora Nui  |  Bottom: COMO Laucala Island, Fiji

In French Polynesia, for example, travelers can afford to stay a little longer in those bucket-list overwater bungalows that Tahiti is famous for. The romance of remote Bora Bora, where celebrities flock to its stunning coral reefs and beaches, isn’t just for the A-list anymore. Fiji is drawing interest as well, as it offers many, many more soft, sandy beach options throughout its archipelago of 300 islands.

For those heading to euro-based countries, financial experts are noting that you’ll get the biggest bang for your buck in restaurants and taxi cabs, and when enjoying that daily café et croissant. The opportunity to bring home luxury goods is also favorable, since they are in effect discounted with the strong dollar.

Look ahead and lock in an escape while the dollar is strong.

Japan | B-Side Favorites | Hot Air Balloon Experiences | TA Quick Check-in

Miyajima, Japan

At Long Last, Japan is Open for Visitors!

After two and a half years, Japan is at last open for visitors. Japan is a country that’s easy to fall in love with. Harmony, or “wa,” is a foundation of Japanese culture, and visitors will discover that this is a place where massive metropolises can co-exist with natural paradises, where skyscrapers tower not very far from historical temples and shrines. It is this blend of the modern and ancient that captures travelers like no other destination.

Left: Yoshino, Nara  |  Right: Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono, Hokkaido

Each of Japan’s 47 prefectures has its own charm, and every season has wonders to share – from the cherry blossoms of spring in Yoshino, east of Osaka, to the surprisingly vibrant fall colors of the mainland, to the famous powder slopes craved by skiers on the island of Hokkaido. The lights, sounds and smells of Tokyo at night will enthrall you. Treat the kids (or kids at heart) to a Mario Kart go-kart tour through the streets of the city itself.

Left: Snow Monkey Park  |  Right: Hoshinoya Kyoto

At some point during your visit, a stay in a ryokan – a traditional Japanese inn – is essential for a taste of traditional life and hospitality. You’ll find tatami rooms, futon beds, Japanese-style baths, and local cuisine. Another popular cultural experience is soaking in a sento (bathhouse) or an onsen (outdoors in volcanic spring water). Either way, the water will be very hot and the communal experience a genuine Japanese ritual. In winter, head to Snow Monkey Park near Nagano to watch the adorable macaques enjoy the same rite with comical solemnity.

Left: Miyajima  |  Right: Fushimi Inari

Seeking out the floating torii gate of Miyajima or walking through the gates of the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto – in fact, exploring any of Japan’s many shrines and temples – is an excellent way to learn more about the country’s spiritual side. Birdwatchers will delight in the rare and stunning species to be found in one of Japan’s 160 designated bird preserves.

And those who love to fish will enjoy the challenge of angling the old-fashioned way – with traditional Japanese bamboo poles. Ask us to seek out this experience or a visit to any of the country’s many artisans working hard to keep the old crafts alive – everything from wood-block prints to pottery and papermaking. You are guaranteed to find something exquisite. Make sure to save space in your suitcase.

Polignano a Mare, Puglia. Italy

Paris, Tuscany, Mykonos…. There are good reasons why travelers keep going back to these unforgettable destinations: the bright lights, the shopping, the food, the wine, the olives, the warmth! But maybe it’s time to mix it up a little. Why not spread your wings on your next escape and try these alternative locations? Think of it as the B-side of your special spot. We’re sure you’ll discover a whole new crop of favorite places and wonder why it took you so long to discover them.

If you like Amalfi… how about Puglia? Tired of the crowds in the north of Italy? Instead of heading straight to the southwest coast, head down into the heel of Italy’s boot for just as much culture and fantastic food and wine. The grandeur of Lecce means this town is often called the “Florence of the South.”

Lisbon, Portugal

If you like Paris… how about Lisbon? More compact and easier to get around, the Portuguese capital blends history, nightlife, and fantastic seafood at reasonable prices. Instead of nibbling on croissants, seek out Lisbon’s sweet and creamy pastel del nata by starting with a visit to the famous Pastéis de Belém.

Zante (Zakynthos), Shipwreck Beach (Navagio)

If you like Greek beach destinations… how about Zante (Zakynthos)? Sure, Greece’s largest island has glorious sandy beaches, but you won't believe the memories you'll make when you swim at the famous Shipwreck Beach, watch the sunset from the cliffs of Keri and Kryoneri, listen to the islanders sing their cantatas and see the endangered caretta caretta sea turtles.

 La Morra, Piedmont, Italy

If you like Tuscany…. how about Piedmont? With pastoral views and great wines and notable for its white truffles, Italy’s second-largest region is a favorite of gourmands everywhere. Sitting at the foot of the Alps, Piedmont is a great place to visit in winter: skiers are spoiled for choice with five nearby resorts.

Quieter destinations pay visitors big rewards.

Let's discover your new favorite B-Side destination.

Cappadocia, Turkey

Experience the Beauty of Travel From High in the Sky

Floating on gentle air currents high above some of the world’s most stunning landscapes is something everyone should experience at least once in their life. Watching the colors change far below as the sun rises or sets is not quickly forgotten. We’ve curated some of the best places in the world to channel your inner Dorothy (bringing Toto is optional).

There’s a reason the balloons of Cappadocia, Turkey, keep turning up in your social media feeds – this dry region of central Turkey is a feast for the eyes, especially the spectacular pillars and minaret-like rock formations of Göreme Park, a UNESCO site.

If you are already on safari in Masai Mara, Kenya, then adding a balloon ride is a must. Balloons soar over the savannah at sunrise to view wildlife when they are most active.

Left: Albuquerque Ballon Fiesta  |  Right: Masai Mara, Kenya

Albuquerque, New Mexico, runs its Balloon Fiesta in early October – this international gathering marks 50 years with balloon rodeos, twilight balloon glows, and skies filled with hundreds of colorful dirigibles. Even if you miss the nine-day event, taking a private ride any time of year may be one of the best ways to experience the southwest.

The 9,000-year-old hillside dwellings of Matera, Italy, are among the country’s lesser-known treasures, but this UNESCO site is nothing short of spectacular. These early human homes are fascinating to explore on the ground, but a balloon-eye view is unbeatable, too.

The Best Caribbean Islands You've Never Heard of | How to Make Air Travel Less Stressful | Spring Break Trips in Europe

Magazine Beach, Grenada

Under the Radar Caribbean Islands You Need to Visit

If you’re looking to the Caribbean to take the chill out of your bones this winter, go exploring beyond the usual haunts of the jet set – you’re guaranteed a much richer experience. The thrill of discovering a new favorite island is half the fun. So if you’re ready to branch out, here are a few islands to kick-start your imagination.

Grenada

Spice Island Beach Resort, St. George's, Grenada

Breathe in the sweet and spicy air from all the nutmeg and cocoa farms on this gorgeous West Indies island where English and Grenadian Creole are spoken. Visitors can wander over 40 white beaches, including the famous two miles of creamy sands along Grand Anse, or sample the wares at three rum distilleries and discover how cocoa beans are processed at “chocolate farms” while nibbling on artisanal treats. Day trips to explore nearby islands are also a must – Petite Martinique and Carriacou are short ferry rides or puddle-jumper flights away and provide an authentic taste of local cultures and foods.

Curaçao

Baoase Luxury Resort, Willemstad, Curaçao

Once you figure out how to pronounce it (kur-uh-sau), you’ll start to feel at home on this laid-back paradise. Curaçao is one of the three westernmost islands of the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea – it’s part of the ABC islands (Aruba and Bonaire are the other two). In Curaçao’s capital of Willemstad, recognized as a historical area by UNESCO, you can admire the Dutch colonial architecture. There’s much to enjoy among these pastel-colored buildings, but make sure to walk through the incredible street art of the nearby Scharloo District. While beach delights are easy to find in Curaçao, adventurous types can hike up for grand views atop Christoffelberg, also known as Mount Saint Christoffel.

Dominica

Here’s another Caribbean gem, just a little off the beachy beaten path. Dominica is a lush tropical island found between Martinique and Guadeloupe. The island’s vibrant coral reefs just offshore are a diver’s paradise where volcanic subsea terrain and hot springs create a welcoming environment for many fascinating marine life. Snorkeling at Champagne reef – among all those little bubbles escaping the volcanic rock – might just tickle your fancy, too. Several top-end luxury resorts have opened in the last few years, making this small island packed with natural beauty an even more enticing destination.

Eleuthera

Pink Sands Resort, Dunmore Town, Eleuthera

This outer island in the Bahamian archipelago moves at a deliciously slow pace. Its name comes from the Greek word for “freedom,” which is apt because Eleuthera – while lined with gorgeous pink sandy beaches – is free from crowds or cruise ships or casinos. This thin island – no more than two miles wide – gives visitors views of both the roiling Atlantic Ocean and the calmer Caribbean Sea. Visitors who drive along the Glass Window Bridge – a causeway that connects the north and south and dubbed the narrowest point on Earth – can see both at once from their car. Eleuthera simply hopes its visitors slip into island time and escape normal life for a while.

This year, let’s find you a new Caribbean hideaway.

Here’s How To Make Air Travel Less Stressful

Many are quite taken by the baggage tracking company BlueRibbonBags. This service keeps an eye on your bag every step of the way to ensure it doesn’t get completely lost – and pays out $1,000 if it does.

Another favorite is Ship Sticks, a courier service created to deliver golf clubs worry-free, but it’s also great for sending skis and luggage to your destination – making sure they arrive at the same time you do. Even better, this white-glove service picks up your bags so you don’t need to drag them through the airport or worry that your airline or airport might mislay them on the journey.

If you’d rather DIY it, check out the Apple AirTag. These keychain-style tags are about $40 and use Bluetooth signals that sync up with your iPhone’s Find My app so you can follow along in real-time.

We know how to smooth out the bumps of air travel.

Keukenhof Botanical Garden, Lisse, Netherlands

Thinking Ahead For Spring Break and Beyond

After months of gray winter weather, there is something special about spring break vacations. Imagine getting out into sunshine and warmth and wandering the bright tulip fields of Lisse in the Netherlands; discovering delightful spring ski conditions in Sestrière, high in the Italian Dolomites, or heading off-piste in Andermatt, Switzerland. Maybe it’s time for one last multigenerational gathering in Tuscany or Lisbon before the kids get busy with their own schedules.

Top Left: Lisse  |  Top Right: Sestrière  |  Bottom Left: Andermatt  |  Bottom Right: Tuscany

No matter how you envision that escape, the best time to plan is now. Planning early has always been a good idea, but there’s never been a more advantageous time to secure an advanced booking in this economic climate.

South America | Rockstar Arrivals | Drinks from Around the World

Mashpi Lodge, Ecuador

Why We Love this Year-Round Destination

South America is a destination that can please everyone. You can discover twelve countries in a continent that boasts the world’s longest mountain range, largest river basin, and driest region—not to mention one of its greatest concentrations of biodiversity.

Come for the ancient civilizations, wildlife, the eye-popping ice fields, and the incredible resort hotels you’ll find to relax and recharge in. No matter when you want to travel, there’s a must-see sight but also a whole lot more to explore. Here are a few of our favorite stops:

Peru

Left: Machu Picchu  |  Top:  Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo  |  Bottom:  Astrid y Gastón, Lima

After wandering the ruins of Machu Picchu and taking in those valley views, stay a few extra days to see more of this stunning country. North of Cuzco, discover even more Inca ruins and shop the stunning artisanship found in the local markets of towns in the Sacred Valley. The area is rich in culture, and the time you spend in the valley allows your body to adjust to the higher altitude of Cuzco.

Visitors can also head to the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca for a culture hit—the area is the mythological birthplace of the Incas. Before you fly home, the food scene of Lima is a must-try. There are more Michelin-starred chefs here than you would expect.

Chile

Top: Tierra Atacama  |  Bottom:  Explora, Torres del Paine |  Right: Viña Haras de Pirque

After you’ve used up your vocabulary of superlatives admiring the Andes spires and the mind-blowing sights of Torres del Paine National Park, make sure you don’t head home right away.

Pack your bathing suit—and find an online dictionary—to prepare yourself for the natural beauty of the Atacama Desert oasis pools—slipping into geothermal waters at the driest place on Earth is something you won’t soon forget. Then, take time to sample the inviting sauvignon blanc and Syrah of Casablanca Valley, about 45 minutes outside Santiago.

Ecuador

Left: Mashpi Lodge  |  Top: Galapágos Islands  |  Bottom: Quito

Once you’ve been blown away by the “cageless zoo”—the Galapágos Islands are renowned for wildlife that lives without fear of humans, there’s still so much more to see and do. Since you’ve come this far, make sure you spend time in the Amazon rainforest. One of the easiest ways to do this is to book a tour at the resort near the Mashpi Reserve, along the western slope of the Andes and a three-hour drive from the capital, Quito.

The floor-to-ceiling windows of Mashpi Lodge let you feel like you’re in the jungle even when you’re kicking back from a day of wildlife viewing in the cloud forests. And while you’re in the neighborhood—stand on the equatorial line for a fun photo, and make sure to explore Quito’s excellently preserved Historic Quarter.

South America works any time of the year, let’s figure out when you can start exploring.

Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel

Making Your Arrival Half the Fun

You may not be a rock star, but it sure is nice to feel like one when you travel. Flying into LAX? Look into PS—this private suite solution to airport terminal woes is at the top end of the line. Travelers can choose to dine and drink in an exclusive lounge, make use of a private room with day beds, or book a direct limo ride from your front door to the tarmac.

Airports around the world have also opened separate VIP terminals and front-of-the-line access for elite travelers happy to pay for the privilege, everywhere from Amsterdam to Dubai to New Delhi and Tel Aviv. Ask us to book the service for your family. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

Since you’re in rock-star-mode, seal the deal by turning heads as you arrive into your destination. Here are a few of our favorite breathtaking arrivals.

Six Senses Oman

Glide: Standing 960 feet above the Gulf of Oman, simply push off and enjoy a guided paraglide down to the beach beside Six Senses Oman. If the rest of your group isn’t so adventurous, there’s also a scenic 4x4 drive through the mountains or a private speedboat arrival from a nearby port.

Fly: St. Barth’s might be as unpretentious as it is exclusive, but that doesn’t mean you need to schlep in with the masses. Book a private jet to move you quickly and efficiently from St. Maarten (SXM) to your hotel—customs agents will meet your PJ, and you’ll be on the beach in no time. Travelers starting their laid-back luxe getaway on the Hawaiian island of Lanai can book a sleek Lanai Air PJ transfer from Honolulu—from tarmac straight to the mai tai on your balcony.

Left: JW Marriott Venice  |  Right: CMH Heli-Skiing and Summer Adventures

Speedboat: Leave the crowded alleys and vaporetto of Venice behind by hopping into a private speedboat to reach the exclusive island hotels of Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, and the JW Marriott Venice. In Udaipur, board a small vessel to cross Lake Pichola and fall under the romantic allure of Leela Palace Udaipur in India’s most amorous city.

Heli: Seeing the world from a helicopter is a thrill no matter where you land—but dropping into British Columbia’s CMH lodges after flying over the Cariboo or Bugaboo ranges (heli-hike in summer or heli-ski in winter) is as unforgettable a flight as you’ll find in South Australia, cresting the Blue Mountains to land at One and Only Woglan Valley resort.

Let's find a way to make your arrival half the fun.

Raise a Toast to Travel

Can you really say you’ve been to Brazil if you haven’t sipped a caipirinha and watched the sunset? The refreshing muddled blend of cachaça, limes, and brown sugar is the country’s national drink. No matter where you go, live and libate like a local—and let us know if we missed your favorite!

Peru/Chile: The Pisco Sour is a tart, sweet, silky, herbaceous cocktail to savor, and when you need a nonalcoholic boost, the caffeine in a yerba maté tea is just the ticket.

India: Ordering gin and tonic in the country of the cocktail’s origin is a true travel moment, particularly when it’s served with a salty snack and a grand view. For a refreshment that skips the alcohol, you can’t beat a mango lassi, a thick blend of mango, yogurt, milk, sugar, and cardamom.

Mango Lassi  |  Singapore Sling  |  Yerba Maté

Bali: It’s never hard to find someone with a machete at the ready to slice open a fresh green coconut—all you need to do next is stick in a straw and sip—ahhhh! You also can’t go far without seeing someone drinking Bintang—a pale lager that’s likely the most popular beer in Indonesia.

Singapore: Kopi, or coffee, is the national drink here, and kopitiams (coffee shops) are a way of life—the default order is made with sweetened condensed milk and is simply delicious. But it wouldn’t be a proper visit without a drink at the Raffles Hotel Long Bar—home to the Singapore sling, where the sweet cocktail is served in souvenir glasses.

Here's to raising a glass in a new destination.

Ulun Danu Batur Temple, Buahan

Bali – A beach resort is a great spot to get over your jet lag, and then start exploring. The terraced rice fields near Ubud, the black sand beaches of Tabanan, the majestic island temple of Tanah Lot—Bali is about so much more than the beach.

Balinese people are warm and kind and happy to talk to visitors about their country. Make sure you book a temple tour with a private guide to explore off the well-worn tourist path. And if you want to live your Eat, Pray, Love best life, there’s a yoga studio in Ubud for you.

Thailand – Honeymooners are booking this favorite getaway again. Popular exotic beach towns such as Koh Pha Ngan, Koh Samui, Krabi, Phuket, and Phi Phi Island are gorgeous and relaxing at the right resort, and new ones have opened up. Thailand is famous for its fantastically fresh and varied flavors—lemongrass, chili, kaffir limes—what better place to “go for Thai” than in Thailand?

Combine your beach getaway with the nightlife of Bangkok (just watch out for the wild and crazy traffic). Shop, eat, and see if you can count the number of Buddha statues you see—Bangkok has its largest one looming over the city at 230 feet high.

Vietnam – This country hugs the eastern edge of the Indochina peninsula and is famous for its beaches and beach resorts. In the capital, Hanoi, explore the labyrinth of streets in the old quarter and stop at a food stall to taste the cuisine—a yummy blend of Chinese and Thai flavors. And don’t leave before wandering the UNESCO world heritage site, Hoi An, an ancient trading village on the coast with well-preserved architecture and charm.

Left: Marina Bay Sands Hotel  |  Right: Gardens by the Bay

Singapore – This city-state is a fascinating blend of Asian and Western styles that has long been a melting pot of cultures: Malay, Chinese, Muslim, and Peranakan neighborhoods are fascinating to explore and shop in, not to mention to eat in. Just make sure that you spend time in one of its hawker-stall food markets—they’re like a food court but so much more entertaining and delicious (pro tip: the longer the line of locals, the better the food).

From gleaming shopping districts along Orchard Road to the 57-story high infinity pool atop Marina Bay Sands hotel to the chanting monks of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (not to be missed), Singapore never disappoints.

Asia’s beaches and historic sites are waiting:

Which one will you explore first?

British Airways

How to Make the Journey Part of your Vacation

Now, more than ever, it’s time to ensure that your trip is as luxurious as your destination. Upgrading your flight and airport experience help soften the rougher edges of travel, especially in a summer when airports are busier than usual and airlines are still reconfiguring schedules and staffing.

Consider booking the best seats possible on the airline of your destination: The accents and personalities on British Airways or Aer Lingus, for example, will get you into a UK state of mind. Flying business class on long-haul flights (and enjoying the airline’s accompanying airport lounges) is a travel game changer, but also consider splurging on something even better.

Left: British Airways  |  Right: Singapore Airlines

Even jaded frequent flyers feel a thrill of child-like delight when settling into premium seats. We’ve all seen those social posts: “Look at the orchid Cathay Pacific has placed in my pod seat!” and “Why yes, I will have a glass of Dom before takeoff!"

Heading to Asia? The Singapore Airlines suite offers complete privacy with its own sliding door, window blinds, and bed—travel with a partner and you’ve got a private double bed. Emirates’ stunning first-class amenities are legendary—and offer you a chance to take a shower at 35,000 feet.

Left: Emirates  |  Right: Qatar Airways

Qatar’s Qsuites are exquisite and can configure into a small living room for a more social feel. Flying Air France first-class? You’ll be chauffeured from the lounge to the plane—bypassing the terminal completely.

Another way to make the journey more exciting is to take advantage of long layovers. Instead of spending hours inside an airport, book an extra night or two at your midway city—there’s always a fun neighborhood or incredible restaurant to try. Consider this stop a trip within a trip!

Let us help you make the most of your journey,

not just the final destination.

skipgen travel

Let’s Skip Right to the Heart of SkipGen Travel

Grandparents who want to make up for lost time with their grandchildren are scooping them up and heading out to explore the world—leaving the kids’ time-stretched parents at home. SkipGen travel is becoming one of the best ways to reestablish family bonds that grew thin during the isolation and lockdowns of the pandemic. SkipGen travel works so well because it combines two generations with oodles of free time (once school is out).

Whether you’re showing the grandkids your favorite ports of call on a cruise, castle hopping through Europe, or watching their confidence grow on horseback at a ranch out west—this is your chance to experience new things together that brings such joy.

Younger children love beach days, no matter where you want to walk in the surf—expose them to new cultures and new foods in new countries. With older grandchildren, build a trip around historic sights in your own country or across the globe—seeing Petra or the great pyramids in real life is more memorable than reading about them in textbooks.

You will need to start planning now for next summer, while there’s lots more availability in resorts and ranches and castles. Booking ahead gives you all something to look forward to and plan for. Just imagine the epic “What I Did This Summer” school essay the grandchildren will write after you’ve taken them traveling.

Why Portugal is one of our Favorite Countries

Portugal is having a moment. If you haven’t already heard a friend or colleague rave about this coastal European country that shares a border with Spain, you soon will.

The food, people, weather, vineyards, and football all make Portugal a fantastic and surprisingly affordable getaway. The country is small – even a five-day trip will give you time to see the highlights, or tack on a few extra days at the end of one of the popular Douro River cruises for city stops in gorgeous Porto in the north or chic Lisbon in the south.

Visitors will be delighted by the quality of the cuisine. Cooks all over the country create simple, succulent meals that make great use of the season’s best offerings or the day’s catch. The seafood is excellent - just about every dish includes seafood, but even a meal as uncomplicated as charcoal-grilled sardines served on fresh cornbread is full of authentic flavor.

You already know about the pastel de nata custard tart, but make sure you head to a churrascaria for the country’s sublime take on barbecued chicken. Another favorite: the bifana, traditional sandwiches of pork that has been marinated in white wine, garlic and paprika. Load on the piri-piri (hot sauce).

The tiered vineyards along the Douro River, growing almost vertically up the sides of the valley, have to be seen to be properly appreciated. Book a 4x4 tasting tour.

There is a good amount of sun and warmth around 300 days a year. And the cities make great spots for winter visits, with temperatures which rarely fall below 50˚F/10˚C. If you’re in Portugal for its many beaches, summer is your best bet. You’ll be sharing with the locals, but there are 600 miles of coastline, much of it sandy.

We can help you find a lesser-visited spot, such as the Alentijo region that most visitors skip or the beaches on the southern Algarve coast, too – just ask.

Portuguese are welcoming. Many comment on the warmth and generosity encountered in the country. Visitors must spend at least one evening listening to fado singers in a bar – the mournful, evocative music will captivate you, especially after a few well-priced glasses of Madeira or vinho verde.

When in Lisbon, drop by what’s known as the oldest and most beautiful bookstore in the world, Livraria Bertrand, which was founded in 1732. Its breathtaking interior is such a hit on social media that the store charges five euros to enter – and it’s worth it! Sports fans should take in a futebol match, too. There are 18 soccer/football clubs, so there’s always a game on somewhere. Get yourself into the stands for a glimpse of the country’s soul.

Will you head to the beach, survey the vineyards or wander the cobblestone streets of the cities?

We're Geeking Out Over These Travel Gadgets!

You’ve booked your flights, your hotel, your local guides… now don’t forget those travel gadgets that make your getaway just a little bit easier. Here’s a few that we can’t live without.

phone charger

The Charger
You’ve got iPads, phones, tablets, cameras, GoPros, laptops – so many cords and so many plugs! Charging is easier and quicker with this multi-port power bank that has every connection you need, and maybe a few you didn’t know you needed. The flat top deck of the Omni 20+ lets users fast-charge their cellphones, too.

cable

The Indispensable Cable

You could call the inCharge®6 the Swiss Army knife  of charging cables. This key-ring cable device is a winner. With six different ends and connecting possibilities, it doesn’t matter if you do leave your original cord at home or forget it in the wall of your last hotel room. It weighs less than an ounce but still manages to allow for power transfers from phone to phone or wireless earbuds or any other device.

camera lens, smartphone lens

The Smartphone Lens

If you’re no longer packing a DSLR, then pick up the Xenvo Pro Lens Kit for your phone. No matter if it’s an iPhone or an Android, these macro and wide-angle lenses will take your average phone photo to the next level. The lens – attached to a lanyard so you can hang it around your neck for easy access – clamps over your phone lens quickly and snuggly with soft rubber pads.

headphones, bose, earbuds

The Ear Buds

You may already have noise-cancelling headphones (though if you don’t, the Bose QuietComfort® Earbuds will be a game changer on your next flight). Do you also need help to fall asleep in your hotel room? Subtle, sleek and oh-so-comfortable, the next generation of Bose Sleepbuds™ II help you snooze off that jet lag. Unlike headphones, the Sleepbuds do not stream music but use the Bose Sleep app to play soothing sound and white noise to send you into slumber no matter where you lay your head.

Let’s make that trip happen, no matter where you want to recharge your inner battery.

Why You Should Plan Your Winter Holidays Now

With so many back into the swing of international and domestic travel, it’s more important than ever to get that festive getaway booked soon. Always a busy time of year, hotels and resorts often require multi-day stays or weeklong bookings – and since this holiday season lands after two years of pent-up demand, it will be more popular than ever.

Let us help you book that perfect stay. Prices are only going to go up, so why not lock in the 2023 winter season rates now? Or let us discover new alternatives to warm weather destinations for this year: the spectacular holiday lights of London, Amsterdam and Paris are not to be missed, and we’ve got lots of other ideas, too.

Visiting favorite cities at a different time of year is a great way to explore new neighborhoods. Even better, hotels are less likely to insist on long stays if you’re just looking for a short break escape.

As the proverb says, “Early to book and early to fly makes a traveler healthy, wealthy and wise."

How to Set Off on Safari

The Swahili word safari means “journey,” and perhaps there is no greater journey than an overland exploration in the incredible continent of Africa. It’s a chance to detach from the world for a while as you submerse yourself in the savannah and surrender to the rhythms of nature.

Safaris are both a decadent experience – accommodations run from glamping to boutique five-star lodges – and a very grounding experience, as the opportunity for cultural immersion and outdoor education is an intrinsic part of the trip. If you’re ready to start ticking off your “Big 5” or wondering how you get to see mountain gorillas up close, read on.

Not sure where to start? We can help.

Which Country is the Best Place to Visit?

Africa is home to 54 countries, with only a handful offering different types of safari experiences. The best time to view wildlife is during the dry season — roughly June to October in sub-Saharan Africa. If it’s the Great Migration you want to see (herds of wildlife crossing the rivers of the Serengeti and Masai Mara), go between July and September. Let’s look at what a few of these countries have to offer:

Botswana:  Home to classic safari lodges and the opportunity to explore via water-based safaris, Botswana is home to the famous flood plains of the Okavango Delta — the biggest inland delta in the world. Jeep drive or dugout canoe? The choice is yours.

Top: Tanzania, Elewana | Left: Botswana, Belmond | Right: Kenya, &Beyond

Top: Tanzania, Elewana | Left: Botswana, Belmond | Right: Kenya, &Beyond

Tanzania: Perhaps best known for the Great Wildebeest Migration, which happens in May and again in December. It’s also famous for the open savannahs of the Serengeti. Travellers have a good chance of spotting all of the “Big Five” species (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo), especially if the safari day includes time around the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To unwind from your big adventure, Zanzibar's picture-perfect beaches are a great place to relax before the long flight home.

Kenya:  One of the best-known countries for safaris, travellers have been coming to this East African country and the wilds of the Masai Mara National Park for years. Here’s your chance to live out your Out of Africa fantasy (the 1985 classic was filmed here) while watching the Great Migration, too.

Zambia and Zimbabwe: Part of the draw towards these countries is the chance to see Victoria Falls — the world's most spectacular sheet of falling water. The rainbows and mist and overwhelming water spray (for those who get close enough) are as unforgettable as the safari.

Top: Victoria Falls | Left: Cape Town, South Africa, One&Only | Right: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda

Top: Victoria Falls | Left: Cape Town, South Africa, One&Only | Right: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda

South Africa: This is often the most popular destination for first-timers since travellers have a strong chance of seeing the Big Five. Look for leopards at Sabi Sands and enjoy this country’s luxury safari camp scene. South Africa also has more to offer than wildlife: it’s compact enough for post-safari visits to excellent wine country and gorgeous coastal beaches.

Uganda and Rwanda: Either of these central African countries is your go-to place for spotting mountain gorillas in the wild. Intrepid travellers will rise early and trek for hours through dense jungle and rainforest to watch in wonder at these humanlike beasts.

Hakuna matata! Let’s choose the right country and the best time of year for your visit.

When Should we Take the Kids?

Heading into Africa is a mind-blowing experience for every age group, but when you’re traveling with children, parents often wonder, “What age is the right age to go on safari?” Here’s our advice:

Under 9: Even if you’ve got a good little traveller at home, the long flights and long days chasing animals in wild jeep rides through safari country may be a little much for this age group. Certainly, families will need to move at a slower pace to help break up the trip for wee ones.

elephants, safari, kids safari

Ages 10-tween: Ten-year-olds are very impressionable. Their brains are growing quickly, their attention span is increasing, and they can handle more independent thought – events and skills learned at this age have a habit of staying with children for years. If your 10- to 12-year-old is mature enough to handle long-haul travel, a safari is a great eye-opener. Not only will The Lion King come to life before their eyes, but also it’s a fantastic introduction to new cultures, new environments, and different ways of life.

Ages 13-18: Perhaps the perfect time for rough-and-ready safari trips is when you’ve got teenagers to enthrall. Not only are they now big enough that you can trust they won’t fall out of open-top jeeps but also they will be spellbound by the visceral reality of a safari. It may also be the only time you see them up before dawn for early-morning game drives. Make sure your safari includes cultural visits to nearby villages. There’s an opportunity for intellectual growth for your teen every day on safari.

Make memories you’ll be talking about for the rest of your lives.

Why it’s so Important to Book Ahead and Plan this Trip

Safaris are immersive, unforgettable, and a big investment — one that will pay off big time in terms of memories and life-changing moments. We will make sure it’s the best vacation you’ve ever had – and we need to book it as far in advance as possible. High demand is one reason for this, and it can take longer now to ensure you'll get the best accommodations and guides. We aren’t able to hold reservations or travel dates as in the before times; there’s simply too much demand now.

Give us a call. We can help you wade through the many options for safari. Classic lodge? Tented camp? Is a plunge pool a must-have? Is a private game reserve or national park the best option for your Big 5 search? And do the safari guides have the right training to ensure your experience is top notch? We can help.

The World Awaits: Our Best Bets for 2022

Anticipating a vacation is almost as sweet as taking that vacation – especially when it’s been planned well in advance by a professional. The first step is to book an appointment with us to sketch out your travel road map. A five-year plan, for example, means a family reunion in the Maldives, a milestone birthday with the gals in Tuscany, or a boys’ trip to St. Andrews, Scotland, for a historic round of golf is made easy.

While you’re planning into 2023, 2024 and beyond, let’s look at where we can send you in 2022.

chicago, australia, washinton dc, machu pichu

Good Bets for Summer 2022

Why not head back to the culture and excitement of big cities and rediscover the joy of live theatre in New York? Chicago’s architecture is a treat – book the must-do river tour early. Never strolled the Walk of Fame or explored the wild intersection of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles? It’s just one small corner in a city of “I saw that on TV” landmarks (watch for celebs on hikes in Runyon Canyon and Griffith Park). Don’t forget  Washington, D.C.’s incredible array of museums and historic sites – make history come alive for you and your brood.

If you’re looking for a long-haul getaway, what about South AmericaPeru is just entering its dry season with bright, sunny days to explore the ruins of Machu Picchu. Or newly opened  Australia? The Southern Hemisphere is enjoying fall and heading into winter – cooler temperatures make it a good time to explore the outback and Western Australia.

Good Bets for Fall 2022

If you’re ready to cruise again, this is the perfect time to book a cabin for fall sailings as so much is available. Italy is always a good idea, and shoulder season is simply less busy with all the same food, wine, and scenery you’re longing to enjoy. The winding streets of Venice are much more fun with fewer crowds, so let’s book that much delayed romantic getaway! Perhaps it’s time to search out those family roots? Hotel availability opens up throughout the U.K. and Ireland in the fall — get your craicon at your ancestors’ favorite local! And if you’re ready for a long-haul flight, explore Cape Town and drive the Garden Route coastline to explore its beaches and wineries.

covent garden, london, france, israel, egypt

Covent Garden, London | Val d'Isere, France | Masada, Israel | Nile River, Aswan, Egypt

Good Bets for 2022 Festive Season

The bright lights and festive cheer of London in December are a great backdrop to your family plans, and side trips to the Alps are easily reached via Eurostar’s Ski Train. Want something warmer? Israel’s holy sites offer a soul-renewing pilgrimage for many, and make sure to take restorative side trips to the Dead Sea and the ruins of Masada. More travelers are returning to Egypt to explore the Great Pyramids of Giza. Combine a visit to Cairo with river tours along the Nile for a spectacular holiday season. Booking now will help make your festive season merrier this year.

Chocolate Mousse

How Far Will Your Sweet Tooth Take You?

Discovering new cuisines in new countries is one of the pleasures of travel. Biting into a freshly made macaron on the Champs-Élysées makes it so much more delicious. For your final course, pass on the cheese plate and sink your teeth into these classic treats in their country of origin.

France: Chocolate mousse, made the French way (with eggs, no cream), is denser and richer and truly out of this world. C’est magnifique!

New Orleans: Beignet, a deep-fried square doughnut piled high with icing sugar, is best served with strong coffee and eaten in an outdoor café in the French Quarter. Extra napkins, please.

Beignet | Pastel de Tres Leches | Pastel de nata

Mexico: Pastel de Tres Leches, or three milk cake, is a dense sponge cake steeped in evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. It’s decadent, yet light and airy, too.

Portugal: Pastel de nata– the sweet creamy custard nestled in a tart of scorched puff pastry and dusted with cinnamon is one of Portugal’s great gifts to the world.

Jamaica: Rum cake –  more than one bottle of booze is used to bake this dark, luscious fruitcake. Then once it’s out of the oven, more rum is poured on top for good measure.

desserts

Zeppole | Eton Mess | Tart au sucre

Southern Italy: Zeppole –  the deep-fried, bite-sized doughnuts can be savory or sweet. Dough that’s twisted into small shapes is best eaten hot, but also try zeppole filled with pastry cream and chocolate.

England: Eton Mess – dip your silver spoon into a gorgeous mix of crisp meringue, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Enjoy with a strong cuppa.

Quebec: Tarte au sucre, or sugar pie, is a French-Canadian classic. A thickened maple syrup filling on a flaky pie crust is a sweet way to welcome spring.

Vacation calories never count, right? Let’s plan a trip to your favorite treat.

R&B Brewing, Vancouver

Satisfy that Thirst for Travel!

Half of the fun of exploring is sampling the local food and drink that you just can’t get in your own neck of the woods – even if you’ve only crossed state or provincial lines. Why not base your next trip in a city renowned for the quality of its quaff? Here’s a few ideas to get you thinking and drinking:

Stone Brewing Co., San Diego | Redhook Brewery, Seattle | West Coast Grocery Company, Portland

West Coast

San Diego County is home to 120 microbreweries – start your craft beer crawl along the Hops Highway between Oceanside through Escondido to get you started. Prefer Seattle? Just north of the downtown, a walking tour through the Ballard neighborhood and its brewpubs will keep you busy all day.

Serious suds heads should land in Portland to discover its many makers of sours, IPAs and saisons. Or try one of British Columbia’s many ale trails, but let’s start in downtown Victoria, on Vancouver Island. This is the heart of Canada’s West Coast craft beer scene and Brewery Bay has a walkable ring of brewpubs and breweries that surround the Upper Harbor.

Lawson's Finest Liquids, Vermont | Night Shift Brewing, Boston | Brasserie Harricana, Montreal

East Coast

Vermont is known as the birthplace of the New England IPA, so come and indulge in fresh air and fine beer; Boston has long been a hot spot for incredible beer – no matter what neighbourhood you’re in there’s a good brewpub waiting for you. Drive into Quebec and discover Montreal’s hip craft brews, some of the country’s top brasseur’s stock a city full of artisanal brew pubs.

Microbrews, small-batch sours, incredible IPAs, let’s find your new favorite drink.

Hurray for Hollywood!

Movies may be one of the best ways to kickstart your wanderlust, here’s are some of our favorites:

To Catch a Thief (1955) Oh, la, la! Once you take your eyes of Grace Kelly’s stunning wardrobe, the ocean views, rocky cliffs, and corniche roads of the French Riviera will remind you why it’s time to book your flight. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a Cary Grant lookalike amongst the jet set in Monaco or strolling the flower market in Nice.

Under the Tuscan Sun (2003) Watch Diane Lane play a divorcee who recovers from heartbreak in Italy by impulsively buying a fixer-upper in Tuscany. A rom-com that makes you remember why la dolce vita is what makes this country so special.

The Bucket List (2007) A feel-good film where Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman play unlikely travel buddies on a deadline to see as much of the world as they can -- everywhere from the Taj Mahal to Africa to Egypt, with a whole lot of globetrotting in between.

The Jungle Cruise (2021) Sure the plot is based on a Disney theme-park ride, but this rollicking adventure makes us long for the thrill of discovery. As Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt’s characters sail up the Amazon river, we can’t stop thinking about the wonder and wildlife of Galapagos.

How can we make your big-screen dreams come true?
